Reasons of square nut cracking

Nut cracking is not a small problem. The cracking failure of the nut is caused by many factors. When the square nut cracks, there will be small cracks on its four sides. Do you know what is the reason for the cracking of the square nut?

During installation, the installation force distance is too large, the fatigue strength of the operating environment is too high, and the lack of timely tempering after quenching may cause the square nut to crack, or it may be due to the material and wire. Nut cracking, of course, nut structural design defects, technical problems of workers, etc. are also the reasons for nut cracking. Here is how to judge whether the crack on the square nut is a raw material crack or a heat treatment crack.

Discrimination method of square nut raw material cracks or heat treatment cracks:

There is a uniform and intact blue image coating on the cracked surface of the square nut, indicating that the cracking was formed before the surface treatment. There are three main reasons why square nuts may crack before surface treatment.

① There is slight decarburization on the surface of the cracked surface of the square nut, indicating that the cracks have existed before the heat treatment, and the crack surface is slightly decarburized during the heat treatment.

②Also, the nut is closed and formed by cold heading. This cold heading forming method cannot produce cracks in the six aspects of the nut, and the nut crack can only be caused by the raw material.

③The crack of the square nut is the crack of the raw material, which is further expanded in the process of forming and heat treatment. The nut is used for hexagonal cracking. When the surface is treated, the coating layer enters the crack surface, so that the crack surface is evenly covered by the blue coating.

To sum up, when the square nut cracks, it is best to first analyze the cause of this phenomenon and propose a scientific investigation to eliminate the hidden dangers caused by the cracking of the square nut.
